If you enjoy modern architecture, you'll love seeing this building. I didn't get a chance to see any of the performance areas, but even still I found the building very interesting. It's not very expensive and well worth the trip. So different from the nearby ancient Forbidden City or the enormously imposing Tiananmen Square.
The National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, also known as NCPA, is one of the must-see sights in Beijing. This masterpiece of modern architecture was designed by French architect Paul Andreu and completed in 2007. The modern construction boasts an oval-shaped eggshell design that made it gain its nickname as the "Giant Egg".
The location of the opera house makes it a great addition to your itinerary. It is located to the west of Tiananmen Square and the Great Hall of the People and it is very near the Forbidden City.
A stunning sight! This ellipsoid dome of titanium and glass surrounded by an artificial lake. It is a must-visit for those who love opera or architecture! Be sure to enjoy the beautiful views outside of the theatre as well!
Equally beautiful on the inside! The main building contains three performing venues: The Opera House, The Concert Hall, and The Theater.
It seats 5,452 people in three halls with a total surface of 12,000 m² in size.
You might be lucky to catch a free performance!
